VETERAN STUDENT OF INTEGRITY AWARDS
OFFICIAL RULES
BBB Center for Ethics will award one scholarship to a student at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College who best represents ethics and a willingness to interact thoughtfully with the concept in his/her essay.
ENTRY PERIOD: Applications in the Student Veteran of Integrity Awards competition (the “Competition”) must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on June 14, 2019.
ELIGIBILITY: The Competition is open to active duty military, reservists, national guard, and veterans attending Cincinnati State who will continue their post-secondary education through the fall 2019 semester. Applicants who are immediate family members (parent, child, sibling) of a BBB employee, or who live in the same household as a BBB employee, are not eligible to enter.
HOW TO ENTER: Complete the following online application form and submit your entry electronically. Eligible entries must include and must meet all requirements set forth in this document. Applications must be submitted electronically. If you have any problems with attachments, contact the Vice President of BBB Center for Ethics using the information below.
PERSONAL STATEMENT: This is a brief introduction of yourself, in no more than 500 words. Tell us who you are by talking about your school, extracurricular activities, your service experience, plans for the future, etc. You will be prompted to attach your Personal Statement to the online application.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY:

You must answer the following question in no less than 750 words and no more than 1,500 words.

Tell us about an ethical dilemma you’ve faced in school, the military, or in the civilian workplace, and how you handled it. Touch on the following points:

Who was affected?

Describe another way you could have handled it, and compare/contrast this approach to the one you took.

How did your approach impact those involved? Is that important?

How did others react to your decision? Is that important?

How did your military experience influence the way you approached your decision?

All aspects of your entry must be your original work and not previously published.

If you are using statistics in your entry, you must cite your sources.

Entries will be deemed void if, in our sole discretion, they include material that is unsafe, immoral, obscene, sexually explicit, disparaging of any racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual orientation, or other minority group, defamatory, infringing, in violation of any third party rights, in violation of any other law, or inconsistent with the image of the BBB.

You hereby waive any right to inspect or approve the manner in which BBB uses the Publicity Data or entry in connection with the above purposes, and hereby release and discharge BBB (and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, and designees) from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use, alteration, distortion or illusionary effect of the Publicity Data or the entry, including but not limited to claims for defamation, invasion of privacy, right of publicity, or copyright infringement. You understand that you will receive no fee or payment for the use of the Publicity Data and acknowledge that BBB may take actions in reliance on your consent to the terms set forth herein.

You agree to release and hold harmless BBB and its officers, directors, employees, and agents (the “Released Parties”), from any and all liability for claims, injuries, losses, or damages of
any kind which you may have or which may hereafter accrue to you, resulting, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation in the Competition or any Competition-related activity or from any interaction with or downloading of Competition information; and you indemnify the Released Parties from and against any and all liabilities, losses, and damages of any kind arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from your participation in the Competition, including without limitation claims that any aspect of your entry infringes or violates the rights of any third party.
SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS: There will be only one winner in all: One SVOI scholarship recipient. All eligible entries will be judged by an independent panel of business executives, community leaders and/or educators. Applicants with the highest scores based on the following criteria will be chosen:

55% Understanding and representation of ethics
In the event of a tie, the entry with the highest score in the “Understanding and representation of ethics” criterion will be deemed the winner. If the entries are still tied, the judges will select the entry they believe best represents the overall theme of the Competition.
Winners will be notified on or around August 1, 2019 by email and/or telephone. Winners will be announced on cincyvets.org
AWARDS: Total amount of scholarship to be awarded is $2,500. Scholarship will be in the form of a check to the Bursar’s which will be added to the student's account.
GENERAL CONDITIONS: All decisions of BBB Center for Ethics are final. By your participation, you agree to be bound by these rules and to release, indemnify, and hold the BBB Center for Ethics and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees and agents harmless from any and all claims, liabilities, losses, and damages of any kind arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from your participation in the Competition, including without limitation claims that any aspect of your entry infringes or violates the rights of any third party.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: BBB Center for Ethics makes no warranties of any kind, express or implied, with respect to the awards. Some jurisdictions may not permit limitations or exclusion of liability for incidental or consequential damages or exclusion of implied warranties. Check your local laws to determine if any of the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you. We are not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, or unintelligible entries, including entries not received because of interrupted or unavailable network servers, failed communications networks or equipment, computer hardware or software, or other errors or malfunctions whether human, mechanical, or electronic. Should we, in our sole discretion, determine that the Competition has been compromised by virus, bugs, hackers, or other causes beyond our control, we reserve the right to terminate the Competition and choose the winners in a fair and reasonable manner from among all eligible entries submitted prior to termination.
PRIVACY: With the exception of each winner’s name, school, city, and state, information collected by BBB Center for Ethics solely in connection with the Competition will not be shared with third parties.

Q: Are there any word limitations?
A: Yes! Please keep your essay between 500 words minimum and 700 words maximum.
Q: How is my essay judged?
A: Your application is judged primarily through your demonstration of ethical awareness and competency. It’s not about a right or wrong answer; it’s about how you communicate your opinions and experiences.
Q: When will I learn if I’m a recipient?
A: You will be notified by August 1, 2019.
Q: How do we claim the scholarship money?
A: The money will be given to the Cincinnati State foundation. Please contact the Veterans office for more.
Q: Do the judges see my contact information?
A: Judging is blind, and all personal information is removed from the application prior to judging. Applicants are assigned a number, and that is how they are referenced throughout the process.
